It's Valentines Day, We All Know What We're Looking For…

It’s Valentine’s Day.  We’re all adults, and this blog is obviously closer to PG-13 than PG:  We’d all like a little sex on the beach in celebration.

But, A: it’s cold. and B: that’s probably not in the cards for many of us.  So instead, we bring you the next best thing: The Drink.   There’s nothing better than having too many fruity cocktails with your friends to drink until you can’t see your sorrows away.  To get the perfect recipe that will have you convinced that you’re in Bahamas, Yay! DIY consulted our favorite bartender and family friend, Pizzi.

Pizzi makes the best Sex on the Beach ever – even my mother enjoys them!  We asked him for some tricks of the trade so you can recreate his concoction for a single’s bash, or at your kitchen counter with your special someone.
…And here we go. Pizzi:

I will start by saying if you want to look like you are a real bartender never use ounces and quarter ounces and stuff like that. We do not measure.  Like a great chef, it is all by feel. When making drinks it’s better to know proportions than measurements. Use parts, such as: all parts are equal, one part, half part. etc.  That way you never have to measure or try to figure how much goes into a shot, drink, or punch bowl of sex on the beach. The proportions are always the same no matter how much you want to make.
Now to the drink:
Drinks are regional, if you ask for a Sex on the Beach in most parts of the country it is basically:
  • 1 part vodka
  • 1/2 part peach schnapps
  • 1 part cranberry juice
  • 1 part oj
But I prefer a little more peach I would use all four equally. Feel free to experiment.  Some people like less oj, but everybody’s taste is different and you really cannot do it wrong.
For a regional difference, try the Mid Atlantic (Eastern shore and DC) version:
  • 1 part Chambord ( substitute razmataz raspberry liquor)
  • 1 part midori  substitute regular melon liquor)
  • 1/2 part vodka
  • 2 parts pineapple juice
